Madhav V. Dhurandhar was born in Kohlapur, Maharashtra. Possibly the most popular academic Indian artist after Raja Ravi Varma, Dhurandhar received his training in art from the Sir J. J. School of Art, Bombay. His popular works include documenting the city of Bombay and its people, as well as painting scenes from Hindu mythology and Omar Khayyam series.
His illustrations of women of that era doing their daily chores are especially popular.
