Narayanan’s journey of Art began in a level crossing, when he was sitting
inside a bus at night enjoying his travel to his hometown. A train
passed the crossing and at that pitch dark moment he could
visualize only the rays of light from the train. Narayanan, popularly
known as Nana in his artist circle, started transforming the idea to a
paper which made him wholly enter into the art field.
During his sophomoric years in Government College of Fine Arts,
Chennai, his amble walks around his college made him truly dive
into the Art world, when he stamped on the dry leaves that withered
from the trees. This transformed him into a full-fledged artist for his
lifetime. He indulged himself in variegated exhibitions all over India.
He experimented and explored using different mediums, especially
wood and fire. Fire is an important element in the visual vocabulary
of the artist Narayanan. It is figuratively associated with life,
existence, the proof and creation of life. His predilection as an artist
share a preoccupation with the nature of identity. Narayanan
engages himself with the complexities of life as represented by the
process of his art.
