R. Vijay, originally named Rakesh Vijayvargiya and the son of Mohan Lal Vijayvargiya, did not undergo formal training in traditional art institutions. Despite lacking formal education, his miniature painting style has often been characterized as naive. During his early years, he received guidance from traditional miniaturists such as Sukhdev Singh Sisodiya and Laxmi Narayan Sikligar. Subsequently, through dedicated efforts to explore various styles and skills, he cultivated a unique artistic approach, described as an eclectic blend of Persian, Mewar, Mughal styles, and a touch of the Company School of Indo-British art
